Ponsonby Kitchen
This spectacular BoxMakers kitchen carries a thick, atmospheric presence thanks to its deep, dark shades.
Tucked amidst shops and city streets, this premium Ponsonby apartment was due for a BoxMakers makeover! The owner chose us to perform a comprehensive kitchen replacement, citing an old and mouldy existing kitchen. It even had a noticeable odour when walking into the room! Eager to tackle this, there is no renovation too great for our team!
Since the original layout featured an obtrusive island that occupied too much space, our demolition phase took care of that as well, making for a more open layout. Another change was having the new kitchen accommodate the home’s laundry unit, freeing up their former space to be used as a coat room.
The client’s inspiration behind their new kitchen revolved around simplicity, efficiency, and a clear colour theme – being full black to contrast against their white home. MDF was used as the primary cabinet material, finished with special anti-fingerprint acrylic in Carbon MT, courtesy of Compac Panels. Likewise, it boasts resistance against impacts, scratches, stains, and moisture. Adorning these are black blocky bar handles from Mardeco, fitting for this practicality-oriented theme.
Bold, brave, and brilliantly black, the benchtop exhibits a dramatic, dark backdrop with ripples of shorn white thanks to Uniquartz’ Maquina Quartz. This gives the impression of staring down at a stormy night sea, flustered with scattered waves. As the owner requested a new workspace in lieu of the old island, we extended the benchtop with a peninsula, allowing for easy dining, working, and socialising.
Inside, the drawers have all been installed with Häfele’s Alto Slim series, ensuring swift, smooth runner action both ways. The cabinetry layout itself was specially planned to accommodate the extra laundry unit, yet came with enough cabinets and drawers to store more than ever.
With many units featuring handleless operation, the anti-fingerprint finish was a game changer. Coming together, this kitchen is positively dripping with mood and atmosphere, with all-black finishes across the board, all while fulfilling the owner’s desire for an accommodating & modern kitchen.
